Apple recommends you buy a new one. Throw it away and consume some more. Hard drive died.
For some reason I I thought apple products lasted longer but I was shocked with the number of people at the 'Genius Bar' with broken Ipods. If you decide to buy an Ipod just be aware that it will soon be in a landfill in bangladesh (we send our e-waste their because it's too toxic for our landfills) and you will have to buy the latest and greatest ipod which is 1 mm thinner. It seems they don't last more than a few years if you're lucky.
I like many others bought an IPOD that soon failed after the original warranty expired. They don't make them to last because if they did their profits would go down. Yippee.
The price to fix it is the same as buying a new one so guess what. Of course.
I would not recommend buying this used, and if you do, please buy a Squaretrade.com warranty. They all stopped functioning out of nowhere; I never dropped or hit any of them to cause this. Evidently the previous owner(s) did not take care of the ipod themselves. I loved each of my iPods dearly.Dearly. That saved me my money the 2 times I was unable to return my ipod to the seller. Each one did the dreaded "sad ipod" face either immediately or within a few days. Over the past 7-8mo I have bought 5 different ones. My most recent one lasted a few months, miraculously.
If she is satisfied.so am I. That means that this little music maker is a hit with her. I purchased this item for my daughter for Christmas. She has had absolutely no complaints.
But since I have been unable to really use it since I don't know how as yet, I don't know for sure. I want to say that my iPod came to me perfectly and perhaps it did, except the instruction manual I received was in French (and I can't read French yet), so I haven't made time to find out how I can find out how to use the darn thing. Everything else about it looks and feels like it's probably a good product and company . I would rate it high if those two concerns were out of my mind. I figured out some of it on my own but I'm still a little lost. At first I thought the battery wasn't holding a long charge, but now I think it may be ok.
The thing started in the store but died two days later [.]. I returned ours that kept freezing to bestbuy before warranty was up and they kept it until two days before the warranty was over (three weeks) and didn't do anything. I have owned three models and cared for them well. Never again with them. It was always the hard drive. Great when it works.
If you have a service plan turn it in near the end of your plan for sure. They just put a sticker on it and said it was fine. The hard drives are not great though and once it starts to freeze sell it quick or plan in getting another. I am ready for flash memory in these things the spinning hard drive models are crap -- fundamentally a bad idea, but BEST OPTION for porting large files of data between work and home. Also wait until you can get an ipod with a solid state drive--forget the spinning drive thing. Repairing it will cost as much as buying a new one.
Only one lasted more than a year before choking and dying.
